Rekey

Typed ерфтл нщг instead of thank you?

Rekey notices words typed in the wrong keyboard layout, retypes them for you and switches the layout.

macOS 14 Sonoma or later · Apple silicon and Intel

ерфтл нщг␣ thank you

After the space, Rekey retypes the word in the right layout and switches the keyboard.

How it works

  • Type as usual. After a space, a word typed in the wrong layout is replaced with the right one, and the keyboard layout is switched.
  • Press Shift twice to convert the word you just typed or any selected text. Right after an automatic correction, Shift twice undoes it.
  • Short words are handled too. Rekey looks at the neighbouring words, so ше цфы becomes it was.
  • Stays out of the way. Pause Rekey or turn it off for a particular app from the menu bar. Password managers are excluded by default.

Privacy first

  • Works offline. Rekey has no network access at all: the app is sandboxed without network permission, so nothing can leave your Mac.
  • Nothing is saved. Only the last few words are kept in memory and forgotten after Enter, a click or switching apps. Nothing is written to disk or logged.
  • Passwords stay private. In password fields macOS hides typing from Rekey, and words that look like passwords (digits, mixed case) are never corrected.

Languages

English, Russian, German, French, Spanish and Italian, in any combination of the keyboard layouts enabled on your Mac.

Two permissions

Rekey needs Input Monitoring, to see which keys you press, and Accessibility, to type the corrected word and switch the layout. The first-run guide explains each step before macOS asks.
